not easy… well at least not easy by myself with a boy that wants to boogie board and with a huge heavy camera and no bags or chairs… but trying to keep life somewhat normal for gavin means we headed down to the beach before dinner for a quick little visit. we keep things simple by just bringing a towel, and feeling the fresh salty sea breezes. so kai experienced the beach in his sleep and i realized next time i will do a lot different. live and learn, and try a little differently (better) the next time — that’s what parenting is about most of the time it seems. but despite a few challenges, that ocean is the best spot in the world to feel so alive and fresh.

this is the reality sometimes…
oh the whining, or fussing, funny squishy expressions, baby acne, or pouting… i just love them all the same. and more and more all the time maybe even.

this month, i just couldn’t do a full ten on ten… but i tried– a couple i pulled from a few days ago (cheater i know). but with first day of pre-k for gav, and just life with a one week old baby, we did what we could.

life with a newborn calls for adjustments. life is so slow but full & precious… it seems like it is moving too fast though already.
hoping to be back to the blog in the coming days with lots of pictures. hoping to do ten on ten to capture kai’s first month participating in 10 on 10. but fully ok if i don’t do either – and instead just hold my sweet baby and rest in the sunroom with kai, watching gavin play with legos.

he is here — and we are so in love with his sweet face, precious disposition, fluffy hair, & every smell, squirm, and ounce of him.

well, since baby boy is still hanging out — almost a week past due, i thought i would fill some time with putting some pictures up of the room. our big boy (almost 5) and our little boy (not yet born) will be sharing a room in our little beachy home. it has been a fun, cheery space in our home and i can’t wait to see the two boys together enjoying it soon.
(shout out to family that helped do all the dirty work to make it happen, big shout out to tritia at beach bungalow designs who helped find me just what i was looking for that i couldn’t find in stores, and huge huge huge shout out to the great rebekah gough who helped with so much of the vision & ideas of this room back in march.)
so with that, it has been a fun long process to get this room from its vision to ready for two little boys to enjoy…. bright & cheerful, sweet & calm, but also fun & imagination-inspiring…pictures of the window don’t really do it justice, but the way the sunlight floods the room in the summer afternoons and the tops of the palm trees sway in the breeze makes this room just make me smile.possibly a favorite part of the room is this slanted closet that has transformed into a little clubhouse, complete with the chalkboard walls & bins of dress-up — it takes on a new life when filled with little bodies just the perfect size.everything a big mixture of passed down treasures, a handmade barn, IKEA, Anthropologie, the solar system from PB Kids, unique treasures from local boutiques, & consignment furniture… and gifts from sweet friends & family.alrighty baby — your room is ready, come play!

hello 40 weeks.
things are so organized and ready, a little too much so. but as we wait for baby to decide to join us, we are taking every opportunity to also cherish our all our moments with our big boy. thinking about the birth of his brother, but planning for his 5th birthday. talking about things you talk about with your almost 5 year old son, realizing & cherishing every little moment that is private, special, quiet, and uniquely ours.
soaking in how much precious time and energy and love has been devoted to one and feeling so confident and full of anticipation to give it to another, without minimizing the first.
so we wait. and we cherish. and we feel so grateful.

lots of sun
swimming every day
sandy beaches
unending play
wouldn’t have it any other way…
a little treat we had one evening, was listening to the band “the donnis trio” (which is a go-to band for me while editing) at our beach concert night — songs written about our local beaches and the life here. perfectly sung, “no other place i want to be”
a few pics for/of my sister
