i. am. not. going.

all over the blogs, instagram, Facebook… you see these kids holding up signs about what grade they are starting… with big smiles, a fresh new outfit, tamed & clean hair. and the moms talking about their tears about their big kids off to new grades.  well… not around here folks.

not so pretty or cute here.  we heard things like:

“i am not going.” “i’m gonna throw up.” “don’t leave me.” “i. am. not. going!!!”  ”it’s going to take my whole day.”  ”no!!! i won’t go!!!”  ”really… really! i’m sick!”  and tears. it was not a smooth day.

so i tried to re-create a little taste of summer for our few hours after a full first day of kindergarten.

homemade cookies & pool time. and it was a success.  smiles and laughter and sweet moments.

at the pool, a sweet neighbor asked, “what was your favorite part of your first day of kindergarten?”

his answer:

“coming home and seeing kai.”

sweet indeed.  except according to him, he is not, not, not going again tomorrow.

on the brighter side, he will get to come home and see kai again tomorrow.

sigh.

friday evening

this is what it was. but oh so much more. the camera set aside, as i helped gavin catch wave after wave after wave. standing up for the first time – truly surfing, on his own board.

gently riding in the waves.

a calm, sweet, perfection to end the week.

photographing friends

it always makes me a tad nervous – but it is my most favorite. probably why i end up becoming friends with those i photograph. it’s pretty special. and this family… very very special.  a little mini-post of a few gems (the gems being them).

a little video

random clips, thrown together for just a couple short minutes of video of our trip with family this summer. while the scenery in kauai is breathtaking, i seemed to be drawn to the little ones closest to me.

a mini post

i really adore all these families i get to photograph and watch grow over the years.  i wish i could do blogs about each & every one, but i just can’t find the time… i’m hoping though, over the next couple of months – when i do so many shoots, to get little handfuls from each session.  even if it’s just 20 images.  so here it goes – just a little mini-post from a full session of pure bliss & joy from the sweetest little family.
