sweet melia has such striking features that i love in black and white. these were both taken in the shade outside in the late afternoon. the top one is my favorite – she is laying on grass but you can’t tell where she is. we’ve known melia pretty much her whole life, so special to see her growing up and being such a little beauty.

i love photographing people and nature that is local, close to home, and personal. robin is my good friend and loves torrey pines – it is out her front door practically. we started at their house just for a moment, and then took full advantage of the amazing views, sunshine, and spring warmth.i just added this black and white one of little kelly – loving the contrast of the dark backdrop, her sweet freckles, and that adorable smile.

sometimes i get back to my computer and start looking at the pictures after a photo shoot, and think – “hmmm, i wonder how that happened…” like this rainbow – maybe it was a water drop from the fountain? AND it is as if she is pointing at it saying, “wow – look at that rainbow circle!” i don’t know what in the world, but i kinda like it… now that is what i was going for… what a cutee, right?!?!

some days the plans just don’t work out. the day is UN-productive. some days the attitudes don’t fit what we imagined them to be. the day is gray, when it should be sunny. we watch a movie instead of riding the bike. and we make cookies and eat popcorn instead of checking off things on the to-do list. somedays we play link-n-logs instead of doing chores or folding laundry. and today, this three year old seemed to need it.

most of the time i am taking pictures of my silly little three year old boy, the adventures or quiet moments in our world, the friends & family that keeps us smiling and busy. or taking pictures of sweet little babies and toddlers (and making sure they are bugger free). every once in a while i get to do something unique and different – like photographing the author, shilpi gouda.a wonderful story. check it out here. i really was so honored to be a part of her project.not only was she so stunning – but the use of natural light really reflected radiantly in her eyes and her skin. we took these around 2 hours before sunset & sitting where indirect light poured into a dimly lit lobby – a perfect setting for a warm, soft portrait.
